Landmarks
Extending on the concept of landmarks as a means to identify and connect with a place, I explored whether a could be created purely through the juxtaposition of individual landmarks or key highlights extracted from the original data. This process incorporated typography, signage, symbols, icons, significant objects, and relevant landmarks, deconstructed and reassembled in this mapping exercise to create a small prototype highlighting the key features of the neighbourhood. In this mapping exercise, there are moments where individual elements combine to create a new landmark of their own. When placed against a background, these elements form a framed scene, giving rise to a conceptual. The mapping portrays place in an abstract form and layout, utilising a limited number of recognisable elements from the original image data. These landmarks become symbols of place; however, as they are removed from their original context and recontextualised, they lose their inherent connection to the place they once represented.
