Augmented
Reality (AR)

Sourced imagery was collaged and stitched together to wrap the prototype’s façade, with multiple photographs of the neighbourhood reflecting data-driven themes and categories. AR allows for multiple interchangeable skins to be projected onto the same physical sculpture, enabling viewers to experience shifting perceptions through their devices (Gilroy et al., 2008). This interplay between reality and augmented reality, using stitched imagery, immerses viewers in a shared experience of place, seen through the unique perspectives of others. The multiple layers also address the challenge of co-coding, where different images can connect to diverse points of view, offering varied skins or façades to represent these perspectives. These AR mapping prototypes of landmarks can be strategically positioned throughout the neighbourhood and scaled to any size, either by placing them in the exact locations where the original photographs were taken or by introducing new features into existing spaces, enhancing one’s sense of place.
